Baa Baa Said the Sheep

One more sheep is still running around outside the Shepherd's Gate farm yard. [See previous blog post with the lovely artistic depiction of our fundraising.] We are hoping and praying that this little sheep finds its way into the Shepherd's Gate very soon!

We are standing in awe, humbled, at how God has divinely filled our farm through the generosity and sacrifice of so many people. We are immensely grateful to have so many "farm hands."

Redefining Missions

I (Bethany) recently asked Ella: " What does a missionary do?" Her response was very logical and experientially based. She answered: " They pack things up and move to different people's houses." Yup, that would about sum up our experience so far.

Profitable Fishing

We spent the last week visiting my grandmother who lives on a lake in the Catskill Mountains of NY. We enjoyed feeding the ducks, playing in the water, rowboating, hiking, and a favorite of the kids---fishing. Andrew even eats the fish he catches. I think it is gross...but apparently, this is very thrilling to a little boy who loves to fish!

Anyway, one morning, I was sitting on the porch, which overlooks the lake, with my Bible and a cup of coffee. I "randomly" came across this passage of Scripture in Matthew 17: "...so go down to the lake and throw in a line. Open the mouth of the first fish you catch, and you will find a large silver coin."
We didn't fish out any "funds" from the lake...but if you know of any profitable fishing spots...let us know! LOL!

Here's a thought that goes under the category of "it's all fun and games until someone gets hyperspiritual": this passage of God's Word shows the amazing and complete power and dominion Jesus possesses. It was a good reminder for me...God is indeed in control of our fundraising for Nica.

"...Keep them doggies movin'..."

Praise God with us! Just today, a new friend helped us get another goat into our pen (see August 14th post).

Just 3 more critters to go!

Help us Herd!!!

We are SO CLOSE to being able to move to Nicaragua! Almost all of our animals are through the Gate! These last 4 animals represent about $1000 of regular monthly donations. Will you help herd the last of the animals through the Gate?

[For example: 10 Monthly Donors at $100 per month will send us to Nica! OR 20 Monthly Donors at $50 per month will get us there! OR 40 Monthly Donors at $25 per month!]

How To End A Conversation

With the recent air travel that Jeff and I did when we visited CVM in Seattle, we discovered the quickest way to promptly end all conversation with your row-mate in an airplane. It sounds something like this:

Me: Hi!
Row-mate: Hi.
Me: Where are you from?
Row-mate: (answers) And you?
Me: Well, we are rather homeless at the moment. We sold our house and we are preparing to move to Nicaragua.
Row-mate: [shocked, unsure of appropriate response, perhaps feeling a little trapped] Oh, Wow! Is that for a job?
Me: Well, kind of. My husband is going to teach vet medicine at a university there. We are going with a mission agency. (Did you catch the operative word in that sentence...that is the key! You can just see the fear set in.)
Row-mate: Oh. Well, good luck to you! [pick up boring flight magazine...look busy].

It is rather amusing to watch it all unfold. From the perspective of most people, this journey is simply crazy...and it is almost impossible for a person to respond to our plans. But as we have said before...it does seem crazy...and God is happy to use our craziness!

If it seems we are crazy, it is to bring glory to God. 2 Corinthians 5:13
